'The present circumstances discourage my participation in the World'

"After a period of reflection with my doctors, physical trainers and physical therapists, both Spanish and American, I informed the President of the Spanish Basketball Federation, Mr. José Luis Sáez, and National Coach, Mr Sergio Scariolo that the current circumstances discourage my participation in the next World Basketball in Turkey 2010.

We concluded that another long and thorough NBA season, coupled with my involvement at the highest level in all club competitions and selection during these past years, I weigh down physically to face the challenge of the importance of the World Basketball. This year I have suffered two major muscle injuries, early in my career, and I firmly believe it is time to rest. I think it's best to choose the right moment to relax the body decide for you at the most inopportune time.

The important thing, in my opinion, is to go with our great selection to the fullest and keep the core team has been so successful, with the additions of new players. I am convinced that the selection will continue to enjoy the highest expectations by large players, and therefore real options.

Try to be with the team as long as possible to offer my full support. In conclusion, I know that everyone knows my commitment to choice and I regret this decision, but in the last four years I'm probably one of the players who have played more games in the world, having reached the finals of all both disputed contests with the Lakers as the selection. Now my body is calling for a temporary relief.

In the future I have every hope of being part of this team I love, and hope to remain part of the selection of all.
